ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES
Our community development program is proud to offer free English language classes to young people in our community. We believe that learning English is an important tool that can open doors to greater opportunities, such as finding employment, advancing education, and becoming more engaged in one's community.
Our classes are held twice a week for two hours each and are taught by qualified and experienced English language teachers. These teachers are passionate about English and have a strong desire to give back to their community. They work with small groups of students, using various teaching methods and materials to make learning fun and engaging. In addition to language classes, we offer various activities such as a conversation club to help students practice speaking English in real-life situations. These experiences build confidence and cultural understanding among our students and foster a supportive and inclusive community.

The success of our program can be seen in the improvements made by our students in their English language skills and academic performance. Many have reported feeling more confident in their English classes in high school and university, and have even gone on to pursue higher education or secure job opportunities that may have been out of reach without knowledge of English.

CRISTIAN'S STORY
Our free English language classes have been a game-changer for young people like Cristian. With the support of Faro, our community development program that began in 2021, Cristian was able to achieve his dream of attending university to study orthodontics, becoming the first in his family to do so.

We are incredibly proud of Cristian's achievements, which would not have been possible without the language skills he gained from our English classes. Our program is designed to provide young people with the tools they need to succeed, including the ability to communicate effectively in English.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS
FOR ADOLESCENTS
At Proyecto Faro, we understand the importance of equipping young people with essential life skills and social-emotional learning. That's why we offer interactive and engaging workshops led by experienced facilitators.

Our life skills workshops cover a range of topics, including communication, conflict resolution, goal setting, and decision-making, designed to help young people thrive in their personal and professional lives. We also offer workshops on self-care and well-being techniques like meditation, yoga, and stress management,
which are essential for maintaining mental and physical health.

Our social-emotional learning classes focus on empathy, emotional intelligence, and healthy relationships, providing young people with the tools to build positive relationships and navigate challenging situations. At Proyecto Faro, we believe in empowering young people to make positive changes in their lives and communities.
COOKING AND NUTRITION CLASSES
Our community development program offers free cooking and nutrition classes to help young people develop fundamental cooking skills and make informed choices about their diets. Led by experienced instructors, our classes focus on teaching healthy and affordable meal preparation techniques to participants aged 15-22.

In our communal kitchen space, participants can learn hands-on through demonstrations and guided practice, gaining practical experience in various cooking techniques using fresh ingredients. Alongside the technical aspects of cooking, we place a strong emphasis on nutrition, teaching the importance of a balanced diet and how to make healthy food choices on a budget.

Our program also covers topics such as reading nutrition labels, understanding serving sizes, and incorporating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into meals. By providing young people with the skills and knowledge to make healthier choices, we aim to empower them to take an active role in their well-being.
VOCATIONAL AND WORK TRAINING
Our vocational and work training program, Jóvenes con Rumbo (JcR), is designed to create social, educational, and employment opportunities for at-risk youth in communities affected by violence and crime in Mexico. Developed by YouthBuild Mexico and funded by UNICEF, JcR provides intensive four-month training for young people aged 14-25 who are outside the educational system, are behind in their education, are unemployed, have a precarious job, or may be at risk of engaging in illegal or violent activities.

During the program, participants acquire technical trade certification in an area of their choice and develop life and employability skills. We also help youth find employment or re-enter the educational system at the level they left school, providing them with opportunities for educational continuity and career advancement.

YOUNG MOTHERS PROGRAM
Our Young Mothers Empowerment Program is a community-based initiative designed to provide young mothers with the resources they need to overcome challenges and succeed in their personal and professional lives. Our program offers a range of services, including access to education and job training, financial planning assistance, parenting support, and mental health counselling.
As a participant in our program, you'll have the opportunity to connect with other young mothers in your community and form a supportive network of peers. Our trained professionals will work with you to navigate the challenges of raising a family while pursuing your personal and professional goals. You'll also have access to various workshops and activities designed to help you develop new skills and build confidence. These may include job readiness training, financial literacy classes, parenting education, and stress management techniques.

A SAFE SPACE
Proyecto Faro's youth community center in Tapachula provides a welcoming and secure environment for young people to connect and access essential resources.
Situated in the heart of the community, our center offers a range of support services and facilities to help young people thrive. Our center includes a quiet study area for homework and a computer lab with internet access and a printer. Our goal is to create a supportive space where young people can feel comfortable and empowered to achieve their goals.
