A month later and there we were (my Guatemalan companero, Roger, and I), deeply positioned in rural isolation in the mountains of Guatemala, preparing to summit our 5th volcano in 5 days and complete the mission that we had set ourselves.
Over the course of the 5 days of hiking and travelling I had plenty of time to think, about all kinds of things. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the learnings and experiences I’ve had over the past few years. Invariably, I thought often of the kids in Tapachula, whose resilience and compassion in the face of extremely difficult beginnings to life had inspired me to take on this challenge. What was interesting to me was that once even the possibility to do something to help out was raised, I didn’t have to think twice about it. That spoke to me of the depth of the impact these kids have had on me, and the belief I have in the work being done by all those in Mision Mexico Foundation and Proyecto Faro.
