Placement

40 hours per week over a 5 day period. The post holder will be required to work
weekends and some evenings. The role will be split between 3.5 days per week working with the
children, and 1.5 days per week based in our office completing administration and volunteer
recruitment. A minimum commitment of 12-15 months is required.

Role Context

The main focus of our Volunteer and Youth Coordinator role will be to:
● Assist with the day to day care and development of our Mision Mexico Casa youth, with a
particular focus on those aged 8-15 years old
● Coordinate and deliver the recruitment, training, supervision and relationship management
of skilled volunteers across different programs in the Foundation
Our Volunteer and Youth Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring our youths routines are upheld,
developmental needs are met, and activities are planned and delivered.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Individual Care Plans and development support for youth aged 8-15 years living in our

  • Misión Mexico Casa. This includes 1-1 focus work with youth and design and delivery of age appropriate workshops and curriculum

  • Act as shift leader to help provide consistency and direction within our Misión Mexico Casa

  • Coordinate the weekly Mision Mexico Casa shift schedule

  • Coordinate and facilitate onsite and offsite activities and excursions for the youth living in our main Mison Mexico Casa

  • Respond appropriately and effectively to day-to-day situations including trauma-related behaviours

  • Act as a positive role model in the Misión Mexico Foundation, whilst maintaining the confidentiality and safety of all our youth

  • Manage the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of skilled volunteers across all Mision Mexico Foundation programs

  • Maintain and update effective electronic records and materials for volunteer recruitment and placements, including policies, schedules and training materials

  • Manage, maintain and develop relationships with external volunteer recruitment programs to ensure the appropriate placements of skills volunteers in our programs

  • Attend monthly team meetings

Essential Criteria
  • Experience working with youth from backgrounds of trauma and/or disadvantaged backgrounds, with relevant qualification in youth work, teaching or psychology

  • Experience in facilitating activities and group work suitable for youth

  • Proven ability to engage positively with youth, whilst understanding of boundary setting

  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and empathy skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to motivate volunteers

  • Effective time management skills with the ability to work autonomously including managing and prioritising own workload

  • Valid ‘Working with Children Check’ and undergo a Criminal Records Check prior to employment.

  • Subsequently, staff must report any criminal charges or court appearances.

  • Conversational in both English and Spanish, fluent in both languages is preferable

Desirable Criteria
  • Full driving license, with willingness to drive 12 seater passenger van in Mexico if required

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of volunteering issues at an operational level including working with volunteer policies and procedures

  • Experience of personnel management and leadership skills in a similar context

Additional Information

Annual leave will be negotiated with the Mision Mexico Foundation Director. This job description is
